Difference Between F150 and F250

Post by Redcrew71 »

For year 71. Is it just bigger leaf springs or is the whole frame and such different?

One thing - they didn't make an F150 in '71. It's going to be between an F100 or F250.

Or an F350 - you should see the underside of one of those beasts :D

I had a f100 and f250 both 4x4 with the boxes off next to each other and the 250 looked twice as beefy(frame/axles/hubs/everything)
Like jacksdad said- the 350s are like 4 times beefier or more than the 100.
I wish I would have taken a picture. I also wish they made a 350 highboy.

Yeah the 350s are impressive. My crewcab is a f350 and the frame is like 8 inch tall C channel.

So this whole highboy thing is kinda confusing to me. I get where it comes from, being the difference in height caused by the springs used in the pre 77 trucks and post 77 trucks. Apparently every 67-72 F-250 4wd is a highboy because of this.

Nearly every one of these 4wd F-250s that I've seen in pictures looks like a lifted truck whether on stockish size tires or oversized tires. They all look taller than a similarly equipped 4wd F-100. That said according to the dimensions page in the tech articles section, there should only be about 1" difference in cab height.

So stock for stock, are the 4wd F-250s actually taller (more than an inch) than a similarly equipped F-100 4wd?

I ask because I am thinking about going to an F-250 chassis, but I prefer the look of a stock height F-100 4wd.

I believe (and don't quote me) the f250 4x4 is two inches taller than the f100 4x4. I know there is more info in the information section of the site.
