68 F100 SBFS build; CV, T45, DOHC/M122, Cobra IRS

Post by SATURN5 »

Thought I'd start a build thread of my 68. Originally began some 8-9 years ago then "parked" as I bought a SVO and modded the heck out of it.

As I bought it in Little Rock, before driving it back to Ohio.

Image

Had a 350 Olds and trans under the hood, with 75 power discs.

Once doing a teardown, put a MN12 IRS out back.

Image

Considered putting a Aerostar IFS in, tacked in place and decided I hated it..

Image

It had a sunroof cut in, and a bad windshield seal, which rotted the floors. I did some basic sheetmetal patches and attempted to put a Mustang sunroof in place of the junk aftermarket.

Image

Once welded in, the flatness of the F100 roof was too much for the curve of the Mustang sunroof. Again, wasn't happy. About this time, I bought the SVO and the F100 was put outside and tarped.

The SVO, complete repaint, put in T tops. Built 2.3L, B234F head, one off intake and header, 04 Cobra IFS and IRS.

Image

On to what's been up lately.

Decided to pull the cab, and reskin the roof, and replace the floor pans and cab mounts with proper panels.

Picked up a roof from a member here...

Image

Separated it at the seam and as low as I could around the rest.

Image

Cut the roof off the cab..

Image

Found all the areas that didn't get paint from the factory had a nice coat of surface rust... Wire brushed it all and covered with Rustoleum converter paint.

Scored a 09 CV IFS over the weekend. Needs inner tie rods (bent), but otherwise in great shape. (That's the same little boy from above, not so little now)

Image

Tried out some 18x9 FR500's I have sitting around for size... I'm thinking about 18 x 9 and 18 x 10 Anthricite Bullitts for a vintage look.

Image

Filled the original gas opening. Will be getting the usual Mustang tank under the bed.

Image

Working my way around the back seam. No matter how much I clean it up, whatever sealer Ford used is fighting me, making welding a pain.

Thanks, lots of hours building the SVO. While it's built to deliver over 500 hp on E85, I've got it set to a more streetable 350 hp, and I can run on pump gas.

Cut in and welded the pass side pan the past couple nights.

Image

Pass side cab mount. Note that DC put the inner fender holes on the wrong side...

Image

I'll weld them up and drill them in the correct spot.

Looks like some good work going on here! Glad to see you decided on the complete roof...a sunroof looks a little out of place on a pickup of this era IMHO. What are you doing about paint?

You from PA or the northeast somewhere? I haven't seen Yuengling in a while! Nice work on the truck so far!

I've got a question about your raised trans. tunnel. I have a '70 that has the low non-C6 tunnel but I want to put the raised tunnel on for the C6 (I have an extra). Does it locate right where the low tunnel comes out and you just have to drill holes and add the clips?

Thanks. SVO's down while I work out some mods on the Megasquirt. Putting some Toyota COPS in with sequential fire.

Motor is out of a 97 Mark VIII. Complete takeout with wiring, accessories and harness/ECM. Worked a trade with one of the Mark VIII guys on the LVC forum.

Nope, the beer gods have finally allowed Yuengling in Ohio. I'm just south of Dayton in the burbs.

Mine was the same way. I just bought the raised hump piece and cut the tunnel. From there is drill and clip.

Finished the driver's pan tonight, onto the mount and patch the side of the tunnel. Then flip the cab on it's back, finish the underside and bedliner it. Goal is to get the chassis into roller status by Memorial Day. We'll see... Stay tuned!

Looking good...keep the pictures coming. Floor pan and cab mount replacement is next on the docket for me too.

FYI, tha SVO is awesome! I've always had a thing for fox body mustangs.
