1966 F100 In Cab Fuel Tank Mounts- Having Trouble Removing

Post by brandonb »

Hello,

Thank you for taking a look at my post. I have a 1966 F100 with an in cab fuel tank. The tank needs to be replaced, so I removed it. The inside of the cab is in pretty good shape, the brackets only have surface rust. One of them the bolt holding it down was partially out, the other was secured. I tried removing them both, the one that was secured came out about as far as the other and then started turning like it was stripped. I tapped them both back down and took a look and couldn't see a nut. How can I get these screws out? Can I cut the heads off and knock them through the bottom and replace with a new screw and nut? The only thing I can think of is there was a nut encased in the rubber mount between the frame and cab and it broke loose with age. Any help or advice is appreciated, couldn't find info on this anywhere else.

Thanks,
Brandon

Welcome to the site.

I'm assuming in '66 these are also the body mount bolts.

These are tough to get out.
Spray some penetrate down around the bolts and let them soak.
use a power wrench and spin them good , and try prying them up as you do.
The bolts are in a metal sleeve and rubber bushings so you can't knock them out of the bottom.
you should be able to see them from under the truck to see what else is spinning.

Thanks for the reply! I can't see a nut on the end of the bolt, is that normal? I guess my question is, what is the bolt threaded into?

The bolt goes through the rubber body mount , you should be able to see the bottom tucked inside the cross member.
It's been a long time since I've been under a '66 , but it should be easy to see.

you need someone under the truck with a big ass pair of channel-locks to hold the body mount flat washer from spinning while turning the bolt inside the cab.
