Well pretend that your wife is a Ford and you're OK. :D
Big Props for being part of Fairtax. I'm not super active but am a supporter. Get rid of the IRS as it has grown to exist and we could do some great things.

:fte:

I try to keep my feelings about the FTE out of my post here.
This site is just about the trucks, fixing the truck, and meeting people that own the trucks and thats it.

FTE owners admin and the mods are WAY OUT THERE.

Signature now reduced to "Space for Rent" over there...

Also getting tired of trying to help people convert over to power steering pointing them to Keith's article here. The article's one of the best on the subject I've found, but I have to private message the link to anyone who wants some PS guidance for fear of being censored or booted off the site...what a PITA...

THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE :fr:

they don't really ban people anymore. they just clamp down on their bandwidth, eventually cutting it off completely by just sending a "the server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later." when any page is requested after 2 weeks on the "miserable user" list

____________________________________________________________
The miserable user hack from the old VB 2 days has now been ported over to VB3 and installed. Keep this under your hat, not all the mods will keep it a secret if we tell them.

To make a user a "Miserable User":
In the AdminCP, look up the user's profile. Don't change their primary group. Instead, add the additional user group "Miserable User" to their user groups. Done!

What it does to users with in this group:

1. Every page in the forums has a 5 to 20 second delay added to the load time. Its done in such a way as to not hang the connection (ie, data is trickled over) instead giving the appearance of a heavily loaded server.

2. Post flood check time is multiplied by 3. Basically, instead of one post every 60 seconds they can only post every 180 seconds.

3. 7% of the time they try to do a search, searches are disabled.

4. 8% of the time they get a "Server too busy" screen.

5. 4% of the time any page they load gets redirected back to the main forums page.

6. 4% of the time any page they load simply hangs with a blank screen.

Oldhalftons is not worth the firestorm that booting him off will cause. However, he will now be experiencing the delight of the new "feature" and will probably ask for a Club FTE refund by the end of the week. We probably won't see him after that if all goes well. Better to have trouble-makers willingly walk away.

what they didn't know is that the script is buggy and only works with a stock install of the VB software. If the board is modified in any way it also gives any user on the "miserable user" list complete access to ALL forums including all the Moderator and Admin forums. their pettiness, vindictiveness and incompetence led to them being caught with their pants down.

All of this was because I complained about their server speed twice.

Wow, are you serious that they actually do that? I've been a member of both sites for the same amout of time. I think I'm a pretty "low key member." Not causing trouble on either site. But I have noticed some significant slowdown at times, as well as the search function being disabled. That would be pretty lame if they sanctioned me and I don't even really post that much.

Funny...now that I think about it, all the delays and server slow messages went away after I became a "supporter". Generally, I'm confused though. Oldhalfton, are you saying that anyone can go into anyone else's user CP and turn them into a miserable user?

No, only the FTE head Poobahs, Ken and his administrators (tim Lamkin, torque1st and a couple others at most)have that kind of access.

Nothing amazes me over there anymore. Oldhalftons, that is something else, but it doesn't surprise me. Think of all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know.
One thing that I never understand is the effort people put into being evil, conniving, or generally a pain in the arse. If they put that same kind of effort into making it an enjoyable place they would have even more success and make more people happy and, yes make even more money. Although there were some years I enjoyed over there, that was never a place that gave me a warm enough feeling to want to contribute more to their impersonal machine.
I have said this before, and actually have done it myself. If anyone wants to make a point with them, contact their advertising supporters. I did, and learned more about who I want to spend my money on and do.
That's MR. Jackass to you fellah!
