Re: Airdam Retrofit
Will do. I've been looking around town for that truck again, but it's not easy in a town with 20,000 people.
I was playing with paint and a photo of my truck. If I do find something that would work, I want it to look like it belongs. Just something simple and understated that fits well and makes the truck look slightly lower.

Cool idea. Still looking for other one if it comes around so you can get a pic. Understand you cant always get a chance to see something like that around a big place.

Might even get 1 more mpg. Angle it right and get the wind away from hitting your frame/suspension

Re: Airdam Retrofit
But Ryan you know any good modification you like has to add at least 5 to 10 hp!!!! At least most of my mods seem to do that if I am trying to run it by the wifey!!!

Re: Airdam Retrofit
Josh this is very true. Throw some stickers on it and you have a very nice HP bonus on top of the airdam gains.

Re: Airdam Retrofit
I happened to be driving in my work truck to go do a job the other day when I saw an airdam lying in the road ditch on a backroad. I stopped to take a look at it and it happens to be a Ford airdam off of a new diesel 4WD and it was in decent shape! Free finds are the best finds! Anyway, i clamped it on my frame just behind the bumper with vise grips just to get a look at it. The width fits surprisingly well, but it may need some trimming up so it won't be too low on my lowered truck. It angles back at the edges, which looks pretty neat, but I would need to make a custom bracket to mount it up. What do you think?
If anyone is curious about what airdam that is, it has BC34-17D997-BAW and BC34-1B635-BAW on it.

I am keeping a eye out for one from a 1985ish ford van, usally found on motorhomes or customized vans. Might have to do a little to make it work but who knows.

Re: Airdam Retrofit
I could have had one of those off of a junk '80's Ford van at a family members' house, but it got ruined in a fire unfortunately. I guess I waited too long to go take it off.

Re: Airdam Retrofit
I think it looks pretty good, I'd pull it up just a bit maybe 2.5 inches or so. That way it won't catch the curbs either. (maybe that's what you could base the height on- the curb height).

Re: Airdam Retrofit
FYI....Typical curb and wheel stop height is 6 inches. Depends on you locale. Personally, I rarely pull forward far enough to test... Heck, my PT Cruiser is stock and sits waaaay low already.Atlas wrote:I think it looks pretty good, I'd pull it up just a bit maybe 2.5 inches or so. That way it won't catch the curbs either. Thanks for posting pics fellas. I'm heading to the JY tomorrow and will keep my eye out for one.

Re: Airdam Retrofit
Here is the airdam on a 2011/2012 F250 FX4/F350 FX4 like what it came off of:

Yes, this airdam fits precisely inside the front fenders and is in line with the wheel arches on my bump. I bought some steel today from the local Lowe's to build a little backbone bracket for it and I can post pictures of my progress when I build it if anyone is interested.

Re: Airdam Retrofit
I finished the bracket the other night and painted it. I must say that I'm pretty proud of my design, as it uses a pair of mini plates to clamp on to the frame, and attaches at the sides using a support bracket that mates to an existing fender-to-core support bolt. I can take the whole setup off the truck in 5 minutes by removing 4 bolts, and there is ZERO MODIFICATION OR DRILLING to the truck involved! I was busy with my birthday party today, but I will try to at least post some pictures of the bracketry tomorrow. We got 3" of rain last night, so getting the truck out of the garage and into the light of day for better pictures of it installed may not be available until next weekend. Thanks for the patience!
