72 f100 dash speaker replacement

Post by GSUeagles »

What and where is the best place to purchase a new speaker and convert to being mP3/ iPod hookup capable? Want to keep the original look. Is there a certain size speaker for a 72?

I used an LMC 5"x7" dual voice coil speaker, but there's plenty of room for a 6"x9". The original mounting will need to be modified. I ditched the original bracket, drilled holes (dash pad is not installed), used #12 pan head screws with loctited nuts as mounting studs.

:yt: the mounting is a PIB, real...hard to get a drill in there too, (windshield) for mounting a new aftermarket brand. If I had to do it again, (also "adapted" mine) I go with a direct replacement.
Here's a real good tutorial from our member Evanflatt on "how to" convert the original radio to be MP3 capable:

I just bought a new speaker to replace the old one. Can I tie a switch into the speaker wire to switch from iPod hookup to back to radio? Will an iPod run the speaker without installing an amp?
