So - since it is to cold to do anything else on the truck, I decided to strip my 3 speed manual '67 steering column - Thanks for the tutorial om here - it was great Keith.
Two questions...
1) Is this wheel repairable ?
2) what do I need to complete the wheel and horn assembly - this is how my truck came and I have no more parts

Re: Help with Steering Wheel Please
You'll need part 13A805 on this diagram. Best bet is to hit the junk yards and find a horn button. Or, the horn ring if you have the Ranger package.

thanks...
how do I take these part numbers and look up description ? is there an index somewhere ?
what are the letters that go before this part number (like C3TZ-13A805-B seems to be a 1967 one)

This looks like it will have you covered. HORN BUTTON
If not, turn to page 82 and 83 of NPD's online parts catalog. Everything you need looks like it's there.

Re: Help with Steering Wheel Please
It's difficult to decipher Ford part numbers. In my parts searching I think of it like this, the 4 character prefix typically refers to year/model but more from an engineering standpoint. The C3 = 1963 which would have been the first year that design was used but could have carried all the way through the next 2 generations if they didn't change the root design. I have no idea how to categorize the TZ. The 13A805 is the loosely defined part number of a horn assembly. They may use that number for horn assemblies that have absolutely no similarity to design. When searching by unknown part number, I'll typically search like "C*13A80* Ford", for 1960ish horn stuff, and then worm my way through the web until I narrow down possibilities to more accurately define part numbers. There's some guys on here that can more technically describe these things but I seem to stumble on things that way.stephen44 wrote:thanks...

Re: Help with Steering Wheel Please
Yes, your steering wheel is repairable. The plastic material they made them out of shrinks over time, hence the cracks. I have an article in an old Musclecar Review tat tells of a kit for repairing wheels like this. Not sure where the magazines are at the moment (we moved a while back and I haven't unpacked them) but I bet the product was made by Eastwood. Here is a link to a product by Eastwood:

This is the kit with a book telling how to do it. As I recall when I read the article, it wasn't that hard to do. I cannot remember if this was the one you had to cook in the oven to cure or not.
Hope this helps.

When in doubt, hit the gas. It may not be the right answer, but at least it ends the suspense!!
