I have a '67 f100 with the old AM radio. I want to install a new radio with FM and CD player. What are my option? I do not want to destroy the dash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you, TJ

Re: Upgrade radio?
You don't have to destroy the dash, but you will have to bend the original radios mounting tabs back:

This will work for any modern single DIN radio out there.

You can also order a direct fit modern radio with a cd player from J.C Whitney, NPD and others that will say ford on them although they are a little pricey. You can see what it looks like in my photo bucket link.

Re: Upgrade radio?
Here is what I put in my 72, it was very easy to install and sounds quite good. It has a clock and also scrolls the information about song that is playing. It doesn't look like the original, it looks better. Front is flush and smooth and radio comes with instillation kit specific for your vehicle.
Got it from Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/r ... radio.html

I am of an age now that most of life's lessons were learned the hard way;
Life is hard, but it’s harder when you’re stupid.
Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear or a fool from any direction.
Never ask how stupid someone is 'cause they'll turn around and show you.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
If you had the choice “Looks or Brains” take the Brains, Looks will get you thru the first half, but Brains will last a lifetime.

Re: Upgrade radio?
Great post flyboy. I was able to pick up the same radio and installation kit off ebay for under $50.00 and with your detailed instructions it should be straightforward. Now I just need an in dash speaker.flyboy2610 wrote:You don't have to destroy the dash, but you will have to bend the original radios mounting tabs back:

Re: Upgrade radio?
I got the same radio for my truck. It does not have the CD player, but it does have hookups for MP3 players (both front and rear) which beats a CD player anyway. My entire CD collection of over 1000 CD's is on one iPod. The radio had a really cool adjustable mounting hardware which makes it fit in any opening without modifying the dash. You just get the model that fits your face plate.Tpdaniels wrote:Here is what I put in my 72, it was very easy to install and sounds quite good. Here is the website of the manufacturer so you can better see the options, but you can buy it cheaper through some of the catalog companies with sales and discount codes like crutchfield, JC Whitney, etc... so shop around: http://www.retrosoundusa.com/
EDIT: on a side note, I see that you have a 67, which was a 1 year only radio size. You might be able to fit a 68-72 radio in there, but it wont fit in your 67 bezel and you wont fit the 68-72 bezel in your dash. Finding a 67 bezel is hard enough, so I would not recommend cutting your bezel to fit the bigger radio face in there. You best option might be to install a radio in your glove box area or another location and leave your original 67 AM radio in place for cosmetics. If you go that route, you can pretty much install any deck you want as it will be out of site or in a custom built location. I saw someone here that built a box on the transmission hump at the firewall and had their stereo located in it under the dash. If done right, that could be the perfect solution.

Re: Upgrade radio?
OK my JVC KD-R200 AM/FM CD player just arrived. Waiting for the installation kit and the speakers I ordered from LMC. These are supposed to replace the stock speaker in the dash.
They are the ones on the bottom left of the page. Does anyone have any experience with these speakers? Just waiting for them to get out of back order (they say a week...keeping my fingers crossed)
