Upper body trim installation

Hi y'all. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to install the upper body trim on my 68.(trim that covers the bump) I understand how the end of the trim clips work, they are metal and have a nut on the back side, but the little plastic ones that are riveted on the the body are flush with the body after they are riveted on. How do I get the trim on to these plastic clips??
