Paintcode missing????

Post by SmokeyBear »

I'm researching my truck and I have found out most of what I need, but the body code on my vin plate is blank. Not worn off but BLANK. Has anyone run across this before and if so how would I go about finding out what color it was originally? The interior code is U for black vinyl and cloth so I don't think that will help much. TIA

mine didnt have a paint code either. Chrome Yellow was the orig color.
Maybe they left off the paint codes on certain orders for fleet trucks or special orders or something :hmm:

If it's blank that means it was a custom color, not part of the regular paint code lineup. Has your truck been repainted? If so, then I'd still be willing to bet that it wasn't a complete 100%-coverage job, there should still be many areas with the original paint, such as up high on the interior firewall or under the dashpad.

Why not go to the following link and request a copy of your truck's build sheet. Give them all the info on the VIN tag and then wait a few weeks to a month. The ones I've seen posted here haven't always been entirely accurate, but it might shed some light on the subject.

I think it's chrome yellow like jzjames' truck. That seems to be what it closest to the metal like you see around the vin plate in the pic above. Does anyone know the paint code for that color?

It probably is not actually "Chrome Yellow", since thats a standard color, it should have the code there.

The six digit DSO means it is actually a special order. My guess is that it is a special yellow for a govt agency possibly the "highway dept".

But:

Look here for codes.

If you can figure out who originally ordered it, you can probably find a mix code online.

I did this with a FHP mustang once...

I used the link Keith provided to ford. Hopefully I can get some info that way. Either way it'll be a while before it gets to that stage anyway. Thanks.

Here is one example of what you can turn up online.

I saw Arizona and MD on there in a quick scan.
