U-Joint play?

Post by Billybobjunky »

Ok guys, snapped my second set of U-joints today at the rear end. Here's the question. I got some heavy duty cups and spiders now but I noticed that once I pressed the cups in, and put the snap rings in place, my spider still moves rather generously. Is this normal to help the driveshaft operate? Or should the spider have no play and be really tight? I'm not referring to play between the flange and u-jointed cups, but the ones holding it the the slip-yoke for the tranny. Should the spider be able to move? If so, how much by? Thanks guys! I can't romp on this motor yet bc of all these dumb things.....!
