sandblasting costs

Post by F-100Ranger »

What's a good price to have a frame blasted? The only guy in the area wants $375. He wants more if he has to do any degreasing.

If I do it myself, what's everyone using for a medium?

Getting deeper and deeper.

That seems high. I think Keith got his stuff all done and powder coated for way less than that.
I haven't used it, but you might consider Eastwoods kit for painting a frame. It includes everything you need to clean and paint it with theor special frame paint.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Yea, I thought so, but he's the only one in the area doing blasting. I called a powder coat sho, but they don't do big items - referred me to the guy wanting the $375.

Did i see somewhere on this site where someone built a temporary blasting booth?

OUCH! Man, that sound pretty high! willowbilly is right about mine...I was able to get my truck's frame, front suspension and radiator support...plus my '67 442's suspension pieces....completely sandblasted AND powdercoated for $222. I think maybe you should try looking a little farther away from home, since a little longer drive might still save you money in the long run.

Mine was done at an agricultural plant which specializes in galvanizing irrigation pipe and light poles, and they also had a powdercoating shop. (Take a look at the pictures at http://fordification.com/my67-p25.htm towards the bottom of the page.) I'd be willing to bet there's something like that in your area, though you'd probably have to do a little searching.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the pointers. Though I'm improving my blasting set up, I'm not able to blast in my garage or out front because of the proximity of the neighbors.

I'll check for some of the industrial businesses you suggested.

Thanks for the encouragement to look around. Only one listing in the yellow pages - Mr. $375. So I got on the internet and spent about two hours searching.

So today, armed with my printouts I started calling. Results, I found a shop about 10 miles away in neighboring Ohio who will do the frame for $100 bucks, rear springs and axle for $75 and primed for $75.

Woo Hoo. He said that size frame was small peanuts. Don't you just love saving money so you can spend it on other parts! Now if I can just get the neighbor to haul my trailer...

It would be in the opposite side from you. Calcutta is just a couple miles from Western Pennsylvania. Are your friends on the eastern side of Ohio?
