I am well into stripping down the 72 Crew Cab, and have learned quite a bit about the way that Ford created this truck! (I will post some pics later)
The back doors are just trimmed down versions of the front doors! The door panels look like they just took an angle grinder and cut them short. In looking at the door frame, you can see how they just shortened and bent a font door!
Anyways, I am learning a lot since this is my first good look at a Crew Cab truck!
Now does anyone have any tips on how to remove the door glass and regulators? I could probably figure it out, but I figured I would ask the experts first!

Hmmm...I've never actually seen the innards of a Crewcab's back door. You should talk to Mark (4x4x4crewcab) since he's reworking his rig's back doors right now as well. However, if they're anything like the front door's regulators, you'll have to do the following:
1) Remove the door panel
2) Remove the 4 bolts holding the regulator to the door panel and gently lower the regulator/glass assembly down to the bottom of the door.
3) Slide the regulator off the glass channel and remove through the access hole.
4) Remove the door fuzzies (since the glass assembly won't fit up through there with them in place).
5) Slide the glass up and out.
When removing the front door glass you'll also have to remove the vent window assembly to get the door glass out.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Bill
I will definitely agree the back doors are cut down front doors. They are not very pretty under the panels are they. I have had my front doors completely gutted and have installed the new runs and channels but as for the rear I have taken the "if it ain't broke don't fix it routine" My rear felts and runs were in decent shape so I have (FOR NOW) chosen to leave them as they are. I have strickly been concentrating on the lower rust repair. I will add a few things I have noticed from having them apart.
The regulators are reversed the r.h. will have a l.h. front reg. and the l.h. will have a r.h. front reg.
Also a quick glance at the door panels does indicate a cut down front panel although the panels used for the crew rears will have 3 square uncut flat spots that would normally be cut for front armrest mountings and also the window crank hole postion is definitely relocated.
The outer pressed or raised area which surrounds the horizontal lines for the pattern are also not finished all the way to the front of the panel. This ridge stops on both the top and the bottom about 3/4 of a inch back to allow the panel to slip under a front channel tacked to the door thus creating a pocket so to say for mounting the door panel. I have a photo of a door panel comparison in my webshots album and also a photo of one of my rear doors being repaired with the panel off.
Bill the fronts were fairly easy to remove the glass and reg. etc.. and I assume the rears will be very similar. I wish I could give you some pointers but........I haven't ......so I will definetly be watching for any info or updates you will post from your experience

re: Door glass removal....
Also here is a link to a photo of the rear door with the panel removed. Notice the regulator and the metal mounting for this. They have cut a space in the door so the reg. and attached mounting metal from the other side can be tack welded and screwed in to mount this unit in the wrong side door
http://community.webshots.com/photo/111 ... 2967MWEZTB
There is a spot welded seam under the horizontal foam tape and if you look to the rear of the door there are 2 screws these also hold the metal plate the regulator bolts to.

re: Door glass removal....
So as I look at the pics that 4x4x4crewcab posted, it does appear that Ford had some sort of a process to fabricate these rear doors from the front ones!
When I first opened the panel from my doors, I was thinkling that the guy on that part of the assembly line was having a really bad day!
One other observation that I have is that they just use the panel from a Right front for the Left rear, and shorten it by cutting it with an angle grinder! This way the hole for the window crank is behind the door handle.
I will post some pic and my findings when I dissassemble the window regulators!
