re: shave drip rail
i did. make as close a cut as you can, remember, you can grind more off, but once you go to far, your in a world of mess. when welding it back together, make short bead runs, skip around a bunch, spread out the heat, that will cause less heat distortion. grind and weld, grind and weld, grind and weld. about all there is to it.
word to the wise, DO NOT LET IT GET WET until after you have paint on it, you do not want it rusting out from the inside. do not ask how i know.

re: shave drip rail
FoMoCo shaved the driprails on his stepside. His truck was project of the week a couple weeks ago.
I looked but didn't find the closeups of the driprail area.
FoMoCo?

Check this out. I'm no bodyman by far, but am happy with the results. Work careful and slow.

Here's the olny frontal pic I have at this time.
The paint is PPG Concept, Ford code Z1. I painted my 67 in the garage this past winter break.

re: shave drip rail
I'm going to be doing something like that on my truck....I'm leaving the drip rail over the windshield and doors, but it's getting trimmed just before it makes the bend to go down the side behind the doors.
