for our trucks 67-72 is 12 volt if you bought it for your make model it should be 12volts, you should be able look it up at Autozones web site by part number, if you still have box receipt.

The guys at the parts store are not gonna know that. Heres how it
works out. In the 70's they went points to solid state. The points coils
ran a resistor. On Fords and GM's it was in the harness. On Mopars
it was a white ceramic thing on the firewall. If your running points, you
need around 8volts at "+" coil terminal, engine running. Thats why the
resistor. To drop it from 12volts. It will run ok with 12 volts, but the points
burn up fast. If your "resistor" wire in the harness is bad, run a wire off
the ignition switch to a "60's style ballast" for a Dodge or Plymouth.
Mount it on the firewall so it gets some airflow to cool it. To feed coil.

If you got a coil for a "Ford" it will have screw type terminals, (points
coil) or smooth push on terminals, (duraspark coil).
