How to buy the right leaf springs?

Post by roachrider »

I got a new set of axles for the truck and I've got them mocked up under the truck. However, in order to buy leaf springs for this, what do I need to know? I figure if I know the weight of the truck on the axle I'm working with, and know what I want the compressed height to be, I should be able to get the right spring. Is that correct?

If so, does anyone know the approximate weight on the front and rear axles of a 71 F-350 with an FE, NP435, divorced Dana 24? It's the two door cab and has a flatbed. I've also got about 500 lbs of winch on the front :-)

Does anyone have any recommendations for guides/etc on setting up leaf spring suspensions? Does anyone have a store they recommend?
Thanks,
-Aaron Taylor aka...Mr. Winch :D

Have you tried looking for a local spring shop?

Dude, call these guys. They did my springs and even re-arched the fronts to set better with with the weight I have up there.

Uhm, you have a 71 F-350 4x4? Ford never built an F-350 4x4 in 71, do you have a conversion?
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I'm kindof building it out of several trucks. However, the frame and suspension are off a '71 F-350. The axles are off a newer F-350. So I call it an F-350 but it's a Heinz 57. Sorry for the confusion :-)
