Laser tools

Post by 91Bear »

Is it worth an extra $10 to get a circular saw with a laser guide built in?

I don't really understand the usefulness of a laser.

None of my tools have a laser and all my cuts come out sorta kinda of straight if you're not TOO drunk.

Take the extra $10 and buy yourself a good chalkline. The laser will just break eventually.

No laser. I've never owned one, but the ones I've seen the line is kinda fuzzy anyway. A sharp pencil is much clearer IMO. I mostly use my saw for cutting panels to a usable size on my table saw, so it doesn't get much use anymore anyway.

The only laser I own is on my torpedo level. I use that to figure angles and placement of pipes when plumbing. You can buy a lot of pencils with $10.

I disagree with most of you. I think you misunderstand how the laser line works. I used one and love it. The laser line is not to follow, it is to keep you on course. You can never see the pencil mark under the sawdust and blade guard but with a laser line you simply make a mark on the opposite side of the cut and keep the laser lined up with it as you cross the board. It is very easy and much straighter cuts on long stuff like plywood. Oh, and since you only need to make a small start and stop mark, you may never need to buy another pencil as you won't wear one out making lines you don't need! JMO Hawkrod
