Wanted: photos of Bumpsides with flatbeds.

I liked the one with the UHAUL truck. I've never seen a bumpside UHAUL before. I remember when I was a kid back in the 80s , we drove a dentside 14ft UHAUL truck when we moved. I also liked the big F700s

The Uhaul is a '67. Has a 300 six and automatic. I know the owner. He used to be a Uhaul agent, now he rents his own trucks, trailers, equipment, and cars. It is not on the road, but he does move it around his yard from time to time. He says that Uhaul replaced the engine just before he bought it from them. I've told him not to let it go without telling me first. I'd love to have it, only there is no place that I could keep it. Would surely get some attention if restored.

Hey Steve, I notice the U-Haul has a saddle bag fuel tank on the passenger side. Does that mean it has the hard to find rubber blank-off for the in cab tank?
I'm keeping my eyes open for one, just in case I ever replace my in-cab with an under-chassis tank.

I don't remember if it has the in cab tank plus the outside one or not. I'll have to take a ride over there sometime and check it out. I want to take more pictures of it too. This is the guy that I rent the trailer from a couple times a year. I did show you the truck when you were over here didn't I?

Yup, you sure did. There would be no practicle reason to own that truck, but I agree that it would be one cool restoration, that would get tons of attention. Which, to me, is an even better reason to own it!

I finally got my buddy to send me this pic. He was working up in Alaska where he and his work buddies found this good old 67 Ford flatbed in a dump yard. They pulled it out and got it running. I don't remember all the details but I remember him saying it had low milage, and horrible rust. The rust was so bad on the frame they where afraid of hauling large loads on it for fear of it breaking. (BTW that's my friend in the passenger seat.)

Hey Bill, thanks for posting that photo. That's a nice looking truck; I'm planning on doing mine with a painted grille and bumper just like that.

After seeing all these posts I'm also seriously considering a flatbed, maybe with toolboxes fastened under the sides. I like the idea of the extra visibility, not to mention being able to avoid re-doing the stock bed!

I'm catching up here, been gone for awhile.
There's some nice looking flat beds here thats for sure.
I'm presently framing the rear area of mine for a "flip down" gooseneck (kinda like the black one/but nowhere as nice).
Here's what my BC #16 (as I call her) looked like last week:

Side note about the truck in the picture i posted in january.
That was taken from google when i typed in highboy flatbed, totally random truck.
Then I drove down to so-cal and I saw it!! I thought hat was funny. What are the chances!

Ryan, I like what you did to your truck-and more importantly: on a budget!
Here's how my custom made, (I took my drawing to the manufacturer in Florida) flat bed came out:



I cut all the holes for the lighting / ran the wiring / fabricated the aluminum diamond plated side boards / fabricated the "tailgate" boards which double as ramps (with the ramp brackets kept inside the toolbox).
Neatest part about the flat bed? Either the removable rectangular section of the headache rack, (for slide in camper access) or the door that hides the flip down hidden gooseneck hitch rated at Class 5 towing.
My truck bed will easily outlast the truck and I too I'm afraid-goal accomplished!
