1968 F350 Project Update with New Paint

Well after the sugestion I decided to make a project to trace changes and updates to my truck. So about the truck. It is a 1968 F350 that I purchased off Ebay ( Site unseen except for the pictures) late in the summer of 2008. We had to pick it up within 5 days of the auction closing and that was a task but another tale. So we go to get the truck. He starts it. I kind of look it over and we exhange some funds and papers and head home. The one part about the truck he failed to say was that at some point it had been a short wheel base and is now a long. I almost said no deal and went home but decided against it. So now I have a new to me F350.

Specs-

Year - 1968
Modle- F350
Motor- 360 2bbl
Trans- 4 speed
Rear end ratio- 4:11 according to the tag on the rear end on the door tag 3:73 so your guess is as good as mine
Wheelbase- Long
Tires and wheels- Ford split with 7.50 16 Bias Plys
Brakes- Factory Power Disk
Steering- Factory Manual
Radio- Non working Ford AM
Paint- Was the Sky View Blue and repainted with White at some point??
I got the truck from Va but He got it from a bee keeper in NC.

Plans-

1. Fix Steering It was screwey when I got it ( would not turn to the right) and the box was shot. I add power all ready before I started this so no pictures. Most parts were local to me and Ebay. I work at a parts store so that helps. first box seals blew out so I updated to a New quick ratio box. I like it.
2. fix brakes,. As stopping is important to me. After all new parts on the rear it still does not stop right. So a new Master cyl was put on and I Still dont think thery are quite right but will work for the moment.
3. Differnt Seat. The cover was not to bad on the old one but the spring was shot and I wanted an arm so a late modle seat was found. I will likely change this again.
4. Paint-
I am still debaiting on this. One time I think Back to the sky view blue. the next the blue with a white top, the next black. So I am open to Ideas and pictres if any one wants to help.
5. Headliner- I am leaning towareds one of the fancy ones with speakers but chould change.
6. Wheels- I will at some point upgrade to modernl one pace wheel and radial tires but for the moment what I have works. Also I want wheel comers. you need to have something shiney right?? and I like them.
7. Bed- Idealy I want a Ford Script bed that dumps but I will live with a dump bed untill I can make or find what I want. The current bed is to big and heavy to be pratical.
8. Other items-
- I want a Cd player as no tunes gets old.
-Trim- Wheel well moldings, Windshield, and drip rail and a Alum Grill.
- Windows- I am leaning towards tinting them so we will see.
-Mirrors- full west coast with all satinless fastners- I did this but thought I would put it here.
- Motor- Paint a some new gaskets for the moment.
- Steering Wheel- this was not planed but I got a deal on it so I put it in.

So there is what I can think of for the moment. I know it will change but I can allways add to it. Thanks

Here are some other changes I have made and the rad support I am getting ready to put in. I also forgot that I have been on a stainless steel kick. Most bolts etc that I take off I try to replace with ss. I figure it should not rust and maybe be easier to take back off at some point.

This should be the last one till I get a chance to put the rad support in. These are the ss mud flaps I added. Also the rear wheel covers I found at a local this and that store. It is a shame they did not have the front. Oh well Here is also the NOS Power steering pump and the power steering I added

As for the paint, I vote for the original light blue color with a wimbeldon white top. I love white top bumps.

I have a black truck. Its a real pain to keep it clean/ scratch free. If your going to work your bump, black would be my last choice for a color

I like that steering wheel. What brand is that?

It is a Grant brand steering wheel part number 990 I think. I got it from Advance Auto on close out last week. I guess they are not going to carry them any more. I have been happy with it so far. You can also get different horn buttons like Ford or V8 etc. thanks

From what I understand and have asked on other forums is that Ford only offered the Cab and Chassie, and the Stake bed( Ford Script or later the Ford in Block letters) If you wanted it to dump it was likely a dealer ordered kit from a vender and put on, a vender installed kit, or an owner installed kit. Kind of like now if you buy a new truck with a bed it is likely someone elses bed, hoist, etc. However this is just what I have found and could be wrong.

Nice ol truck. That truck of your dads is nice looking too. The ol 66 was cool too. I like the ol slick era trucks too. Anyway, nice lineup of trucks. Good luck on fixin the ol dually.

You've done that old Ford well! Keep up the good work. By the way, are you sure the chassis was extened? Ford did make two wheel base lengths. There was a 135" and a 159". The longer ones aren't exactly "rare", but there are definitly fewer of them.
