Question about Y-blocks

Post by 91Bear »

Not bumpside related, but a buddy of mine has a '57 Ford with a 312 that has given up the ghost. Can he swap in a 292 that will bolt up to his automatic trans? I'm thinking the Y-blocks are interchangable but I'm not sure.

Will a non-Y block like a 302 bolt up to the automatic transmission, or would you have to swap an engine/transmission combo?

yes a 292 should bokt right in where the 312 was. Also a 272, 239 etc will as well. There might be some adaptors out there to put a 302 to a y block tranie you would just have to search around some as i think there are some to go the other way as well.

i can't answer your questions, but there is nothing like the sound of a well built y gettin' with it.
