May She Rest In Peace
Well, earlier this week, I totaled the F-100 (Elane.)
So heres the story, I was driving along at about 80mph heading west. In front of me, I could see a group of vehicles eastbound and thought nothing about it. Some punk in a civic eastbound thought that he could pass two double trailer trucks before he would, well, collide with me. Now, I wouldn't have even attempted this in any vehicle, so I was not at all expecting a pass, so I continued at 80mph. Well, he pulled out and got pass the first truck and half of the second, then decided to fall back in line. He somehow did not notice the first truck and slammed into it, then continued to lose control of his vehicle (in my lane.) I veered right to avoid this civic about 25 yards in front of me. I then hit the embankment on the roadside, and proceeding to get airborne and roll the truck several times.
Luckily, that truck had racing seats and only had five point harnesses, so I made it through the crash just bruised. So, today I went to the police yard to claim any possessions or parts I wanted before she was crushed. So, farewell Elane, rest in peace. That truck saved my life, all metal, no fiberglass, roll cage, five-point harness.
Bye Elane

Man, I'm glad you're ok. I'm good about wearing my seat belt in everything I drive, except my truck. I don't know why. I also don't drive it over about 60 and always leave plenty of space in front and keep in the right lane. I pretty much drive it like a grandpa, but that's no excuse for lack of belts on my part. Drives my wife crazy.
That's MR. Jackass to you fellah!

No I didnt. After climbing out the windshield, I was in shock. When I established what happened, I ranted uncontrollably. Also, I cant legally do anything to him cause I was speeding.

oh and normally, with the five point belt, I only buckle the lap belts. good thing I wasnt in a rush at all and the cops are now so crazy about belt infractions, I actually had all five locked. Whew, God was looking after me. I am going to miss that truck though.

Man, glad to hear you're OK....well, physically anyway. That really sucks about your truck. But how would the authorities know you were speeding?
If this were me I'd be aggressively pursuing some compensation from the little punk!

hmm he tried to pass but didn't make it and had already lost control. Unless they can prove beyond reasonable doubt he is at fault he had already lost control.
The police know all partys involved had you stayed in your lane you would have been hit by him so you also have a claim and the trucker/trucking company are gonna claim so call them if the police won't help.
and being he was a burner made of fiber the glass at 80 (his fualt for being in your lane) and what not your truck would have had minimal damage but you did the right thing to evade him. You both coulda been killed glad you are in one piece and shaken not stirred.

re: May She Rest In Peace
some woman behind me told the cops alot. she said that she was going seventy and I was pulling away from her. get this, she told them that I aggressively sped up when he tried to pass! The only reason I was going that fast was because she was riding my gate! The trucker is not filing a claim because the only damage was a primer circle on his tire. Also, apparently the civic's insurance wouldn't cover the customization to his car (twelve bucks worth of primer Im thinking) and my insurance wouldn't cover anything custom done to my truck. (I knew I should've insured it as a classic, but with four registered vehicles, I couldn't afford it.)
