Google Earth
If you haven't checked this out yet, you should. This is the coolest free thing I've ever seen.

Then go to the "Get Google Earth (Free Version)" The app is about a 10meg to download and you need a newer computer and a high speed internet connection but if you can run this, it is really amazing.

Another fun thing to do, Google your address, select "Map of" (your address) and click the "satellite" button. You can zoom in and out, drag the mouse, it's fun!

"Are you gonna make it all 220?"
"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."

re: Google Earth
Yeah it might be fun but it makes my witness protection program a bitch!
Satellite schedules, overflight times, lookdown angles, who can remember all that stuff.....
Actually, I mapped my house and saw the wifes truck out front and the shrektruck alongside the house. Pretty scary stuff if you know how to link it to a targeting system.
Uhhhhhhh, not that I would do that or anything, and no one in a black helicopter ever showed up when I googled the congress.... I swear, really.
No one is here and no one has told me not to say uhhhhh, anything, uhhhhhh, about propulsion systems or foamed magnesium explosives. I swear.

Don't do it when you are gone, might find a sancho-man's truck in the drive.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

HAAAAA! Willobilly!
Hadn't thought of that! Just wanted to let you know that Google Earth will work on slower dial-up connections...just sort of clunky and slow.
Have a look at the Eiffel tower out in Paris....check the shadow!
Also, try the pan/tilt feature on your house if you live on a hill....amazing.

It won't zoom all the way in on my house, can barely make out the town and some highways, not individual streets though.

re: Google Earth
Well, I finally got around to downloading this, and I have to admit, this is pretty darned cool! I've spent the last two hours just surfing around the world, checking out places I used to live, taking a look at the Eiffel Tower, etc.
It's great if you live in a city, or are looking for details there. But for those of us who live out in the sticks, about all we see is a blur on the map for our town, even though the blur has the streets mapped out. Guess there isn't a high priority for mapping details of the middle of Nebraska.

re: Google Earth
You know, this could be a whole new way of checking out salvage yards!
I was just randoming jumping around and zooming in on stuff, and found these down near Mobile Alabama:
We could start up a database with longitude and latitude coordinates of known salvage yards that we could checkout with GoogleEarth. Of course, the images aren't detailed enough to actually see what they've got, and the pics are kinda old, so the inventory would probably be different....AND we're not gonna be able to see smaller yards in rural areas, but hey, it's a start, right?
