Window regulators

Post by flyboy2610 »

I know some of you have been looking for these, so I thought I'd let you know that the catalog I just got from LMC has them listed. $85.

If anyone needs a passenger side one, let me know. I have one in good shape.

85 bucks? I just sold a set to a guy on ebay for 65 dollars. I thought a set would be a lot more than that new...I might have to get a pair for myself to avoid hassle down the road.

Flyboy,

The ones that LMC shows are for 68-72.

Wonder what the diff is between the 67's and the 68's regulators?

Also wonder if newer regulators, say from a 79 or newer that had power windows would work in our older trucks?

No, the '73-up regulators are different, though they can be modified to work, if you're willing to do the work.

'67 window regulators are identical to the '68-'72....I've laid a '67 and a '70 side-by-side and compared them carefully, and found absolutely no differences in any way.

what kind of work would be involved in this keith?

If they can be made to work with just a little elbow grease I would be game for it.

Well, you have to completely dismantle both and do some welding. To me it just seems like a lot of work to go through when replacement regulators are really not that hard to find. But then again, not everyone has access to these trucks in the salvage yards, so....

Anyway, there was a post several years ago over at the Dark Side where someone had done this and posted a little 'how-I-dunnit'. I saved it to my hard drive back when I was still welcome there, but I'm not going to post it here. I'll send you a PM.

Keith thanks for the article.

I guess what I was thinking was being able to adapt if possible the factory power window setup from a newer truck or car if possible.

If it involves re-engineering the wheel then I can simply use my arms and crank the windows down. :D

I suppose this will involve a trip to the junk yard and some time to see what can be made possible.

National Parts Depot ( http://www.npdlink.com/ ) lists a custom fit power window kit for 68-72 and 73-79 trucks. $304.95, switches not included.

The NPD stuff looks great.

I was wondering if a lower cost alternative could be used?

If a person could use some factory stuff that only costs say 50-100 bucks instead that would help a person on a budget.

I guess I am thinking out loud here

You're not going to be able to find anything that's factory that'll be a bolt-in. Anything you use will have to be fairly heavily modified. So you'd have to look at what your time is worth, and the cost of the materials needed to do the modifications.

Just my opinion, but the $150 LMC electric window kit for both windows seems like a pretty good deal.
