Body Mount Bushings

Post by 71PA_Highboy »

Ok,

So I need a new set of body mount bushings so I started looking here:

http://www.fordification.com/tech/chass ... arison.htm

But it didn't tell me what I needed to know...

So the FIRST question is: What is the difference between the body mount bushings and locations on the F250 between the dents and the bumps?
The Second is: NPD sells a poly body mount bushing kit for the 73-79 F100-F350 4x4. Will this work on my Highboy, and if not, why not?

TIA!

I would like to know this too.

I bought a poly mount kit for a 73-77 F-250 4x4 and it wasn't even close to fitting my '70. I froze the mounts and turned them down in a lathe to what I guessed they should have been, but they never fit right. I swapped some decent original rubber ones in and still have those poly mounts in a box.

What I don't get is you can drop a bump body on a dent frame or vise versa, but you have to use the rubber mounts for that frame or it doesn't work.

The best way i can answer this is that most companies don't specify the two by to four by stuff for bumps cause alot interchanges like rear leafs and cab mounts from my research. In 73, they went to the bigger mounts since they were intending have a crew cab more seriously (more of them) and the smaller mounts wouldn't hold up. More likely some engineer trying to feel important. They still don't hold up on crewcabs on my 94 they are flat at 181,000. Never understood why ford said to use the same mounts for standard, extended, and crewcabs.

For you 71pa highboy this may help.......Everything from prothane.

If you can't find the front set in there let me know i have a set that i can give you the part number off of....

Uhhh... If they are stock the fronts will not work in the back... the front is 3" wide springs and the rear is not... (2.25?)

Let me know if they fit IN the spring and I will just chop a set down...

Thanks!

:oops!: i messed that up, and didn't explain fully. What i meant to say is they still sell front highboy 4by kits then a stock 2wd rear kit should fit a four wheel drive rear springs as well. So you should buy a four by front set 2wd rear set, and just slap them in hopefully........Is that any better :?

(apparently that smack i gave myself in the head with the ratchet earlier is taking effect :hmm:)

For the record this was edited THREE times... :hs:

OK,

So here goes the story.... Note that I reference MY HIGHBOY.... I know that it is not all original nor even the same year parts, so I don't wish to insinuate that these are the CORRECT matching parts, only that they match what is on my truck at the moment... so YMMV.

Having had a few Early Broncos I called a friend at WildHorses 4x4 and had them ship me a pair of Bronco body mounts and sleeves... Since all the bronco body mounts are the same, there is no need to ID which one you want. It is a near-perfect match for the Rad support mount bushing on my highboy. The bottom is different, but that doesn't really matter.

on the Prothane...

The Kit listed 6-105 DOES NOT fit my highboy. the front body bushing is too thick. The rear is correct on the thickness and OD to match the bushings on my highboy.

As I look at the 67 F100 Camper Special Frame, I see that the front cab bushing is a match for the front cab bushing on my highboy. So that would indicate that a kit for a 67F100 2wd would contain the correct cab mounts. I will stop at the Summit racing store sunday to see if my suppositions are correct. If the rad support match the Bronco rad support that I have, then the 67 F100 CS will have the CORRECT bushing set.

I will start a new thread to document the parts I am finding and what works and what has to be modified to work.

So there you go. That is what I think I know at the moment... :hmm:
