Cargo Light Problems

Post by dcbullet »

If I turn on my cargo light the 15 amp fuse will blow. Looking for advice as to common problems that might cause it. The wiring appears to be correct, as I have the wiring diagram and it all seems to line up. Could it be the switch itself that is bad?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing's impossible.... it could be the switch. I'd pull the bulb and take the wire off the switch, then test with an ohm meter from the end of the wire to ground and then disconnect the power from the switch and do the same... sounds like there's a short somewhere in there to me.

And a short is when exposed wire is touching bare metal?

I'd start by cecking out the switch and the connections to the switch. Then I'd check the wiring since those run through the pillar along the roof rail to the back cargo light. Lots of area for the coating of the wire to wear and ground.
