Check this and see if it changes. Click on the User Control Panel on the left side of your screen. Then click on Board Preferences. Next Edit Global Settings. Then about half way down there is two options. The first is: Notify me on new private messages. Click yes. The second is: pop up window on new private messages. Click yes on that also.
