Front end bushings

Post by mcarlson11 »

I need to order new bushings for my 78 front end before I put it on. I have a few questions. I am debating whether or not to use polyurethane or just reg rubber. Those of you that have used poly, did your steering seem stif? Was your ride stiffer? Did axle movement cause the bushings to sqweak?

Those of you that use(d) reg. rubber, where did you get them from, what was the quality like?

Any input would be appreciated.

I went thru my front end last year. Got everything from NAPA, very good quality and everything fit like it's suppose to. Tip, don't mess around with the axle pivot bushings and have a shop press the old ones out and the new ones in.

I just replaced all the bushings in my front end with the poly ones that I got from Jeffs bronco graveyard. They seem to work fine no squeaks or anything I could not tell if the ride was any stiffer my old rubber ones were really shot.

They fit super tight, and I used a block of wood

Hence the reason I want one of these:

Not necessarily that one, but, for a $100 on average for a decent 2-3 ton press, you can do most ANYTHING in your garage, and they dont take up a lot of space.

Do a google search for "arbor press" and you'll find literally hundreds of them to choose from, from small to REALLY big.

There great to have for pressing bearings on axles/third members/
tranny shafts. You can straighten bent motorcycle fork tubes and the
it's fun to play with.
