Best lockers????

Post by green68250 »

I'm thinking of installing lockers in the front and rear of my 1969 1/2 ton 4x4. What are you guys running and or what have you had experience with and think is the best? Dana 44 front and 9" rear, 35" tires and a 390 and c6/205.
Honestly, I really would rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy.

1970 F-250 97k original miles bone stock 390 np435 most original unmolested truck I have ever owned.
2001 F-250, Extra Cab, 4x4, 7.3 Direct Injected Turbo Diesel, Edge Programmer, Flowmaster 4" Turbo back Exhaust, 3" Leveling Kit with 33" Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs, and has 250,000 miles and counting.

Hard to beat a full spline Detroit. ARB's are cool, but really expensive and can be a big let down if they don't work.

Tru-trac would be my first choice if you don't need the full spline lockers.

I would not run a locker in the front unless you only drive in straight lines.

I was looking at the detroits, also the Yukon grizzly. Why not put one in the front? Just un lock the hubs when not off road.

Drive something with a locker in the front offroad. It makes a huge difference on how much you can steer.

If you need to use 4x4 on the street, like driving on the road in snow and ice do not put a locker in the front. If this is pretty much offroad only then weld up the front/rear or install spools and leave the front shortside hub unlocked until you really need it (otherwise you will break that axle all the time).

Detroit rear, open or trutrac front.
Depending on what you're doing, i'd look into swapping axles before dumping money on lockers.
