Was there such a setup

Post by spartman »

I was wondering if our trucks or any vehicles for that matter came with disc front brakes but no power booster.

Kinda like manual disc brakes?

Just thinking out loud again.

Early Mustangs had manual disc brakes as an option.

'73 and later F100's came standard with manual discs.

Okay thanks again barry.

So then how did they work vs the power versions?

I can't imagine they worked that great but I've never driven one. Pedal effort has to goes up, disc brakes take about twice the line pressure to lock-up vs drums.

A power booster doesn't rob any HP from the engine.

I know that the booster won't take any power away.

This was more of a thinking out loud, wonder how it would work kinda things.

The 74 F-100 that I got my disc brake axles from did not have power brakes.

If you want to see how they feel, just turn motor off while driving and press the brakes a few time, you will see how hard it gets.

I have had lots of 73-79 ford trucks with manual disc brakes and I must say I
really like how they work, feel, and stop, but when I swapped my 65 truck
to discs I did swap to power discs because you don't have to use as much
presure and you don't have to lift your leg from the floor as high!

But if I were buying a 73-79 I would not swap it to power!

8) 8) :)
Cut ( FOUR ) pieces of an old ford truck frame that has been junked, fit them to the inside of your good frame, add weld and bolts, the leafs are now inboard, time for the (big WIDE tires)!

Oh yeah (Tubbs)
