C4 band adjustment help, please

Post by 1968flareside »

I took the 68 out on it's maiden voyage tonight after almost 3 years. I did replace the tranny pan gasket and had to refill it. I've put about 4 quarts of fluid in and the dipstick reads full. Yes, it was after about a 15 mile trip and at a good engine temp.

It shifts at very low rpms out of 1st and it is slipping as it goes into 3rd. When I had it running last I do remember the quick shift out of 1st, but not the slipping issue. My old tachometer is not installed. I can't figure out why it has 4 wires and the harness I installed only has one. I'm sure one is to the coil and one is a ground. Anyway, I can't tell you exactly what rpm's it's shifting at. I hope to pick up a new tach tomorrow or find installation manual on my old one online.

I thought I had seen an easy to read/use guide to adjusting the bands somewhere on here. I can't seem to find it anymore. Any help on either subject would be greatly appreciated.

Soon as I get it driving good, I can concentrate on the tech articles for the painless wiring harness install and the Mustang gas tank install.....

The vaccum module on the tranny is suspect too. It has not been replaced prior to Sept. of 1996 and has been sitting since then, mostly. Could this effect the shifting?

the modulator will act up when the transmission shifts between first and second. if there is transmission fuild in the vacuum line then the modulator is bad.

Ok. I installed a tach and haven't checked yet. I do know it is getting from 1st to 3rd before 30 mph and it is still doing the slipping/hesitating thing between 2nd and 3rd. If I shift it manually, it's fine. Fluid reads full when warmed up.

That's exactly what my C-6 did with a bad modulator. That and a really hard 1st to 2ond shift. It was just all around better to shift it manually then.
