3 pt. seat belt in a '73 F-250...

Post by Thorvald »

My '73 F-250 didn't come with any provision whatsoever for mounting a 3 pt. seat belt (it's my understanding that the '73-'75 trucks were like that). Am I stuck with just lap belts or can a 3 pt. system be installed with proper modification? My inclination is that I'm stuck with lap belts since there's no achor points for a shoulder strap, but I wanted to get some input. I have seen some guys put in newer seats that have the shoulder strap built into the seat, but I'd prefer to keep my factory bench seat.

Hum,.... interesting.... even my 1970 F250 has the threaded inserts for the 3-point belts. It had a rubber plug in them that I removed when installing the new belts.

Unfortunately, my truck doesn't have that. I know what you're referring to, but it appears that I'm stuck with lap belts for the time being since my truck lacks the inserts/anchor points. Oh well!

Not sure about a dentside but on my '70, if it didn't already have it, I can drill a hole and reach up inside the cab corner to install a shoulder bolt, washers and locknuts for a pivot.

I have a 1972 Ford F-100 with rubber plug in them (B-Pillar). Not sure if threaded - what size bolt did you use. I tried a 17/16 20 and it is to big.
