F-100 small ~2" suspension lift?

Post by JoshT »

So my truck is a 68 F-100 4wd. Suspension is mostly stock. Dad at some point lowered the front spring bucket on the frame for a 1" lift and stuck an add-a-leaf in the rear. He also added a 2" body lift, I'm guessing to clear the 33s he had on it at one point. Plan was to remove the 2" body lift and keep the truck on 32s like it currently has, and that might still be what happens, but...

Started the truck for the first time in a decade yesterday and moved it over beside dad's 2000 F-250 4wd. Suddenly I'm liking it even more at the height it's at. Pretty sure the back will go up a bit more once I find some place to get rid of the truck load of tires.

If it's staying at that height it's going back to 33s to fill the wheel wells a bit and the body lift has to be replaced with more suspension lift. I've never really cared for body lifts, but also don't to go much taller than what it is now. So are there any 1.5 - 2" suspension lifts available for these trucks?

Also not too sure about tire size if I do this. In the near future I may step up to a 16" or 17" wheel so not buying wheels until I'm decided on that. Wheels on the truck are stock F-150 wheels and (IIRC) they would be 15x7. I'm thinking that 33x12.5 might be too wide for those and the styling of these trucks. I kinda like the looks of a tall skinny (relatively speaking) tire on these trucks, but selection in 33x10 is rather limited.

Up north you can get a "snow plow "spring that'll add a couple inches and still not ride too stiff.
One time I bought some '66-76 Bronco springs with a 5 1/2 " lift and that raised my F150 2-3 inches and still had a soft ride,
And held up my snowplow. they were a variable rate spring, maybe James Duff ?

No experience with them but Skyjacker offers 1.5-2 and 4” kits (with various shock choices) according to the website.

I mention the 4” because likely you could move the front spring hanger back, remove the present add a leaf and then do the 4” to get pretty close to or slightly above what you have now?

Turns out that 4" is a definite possibility. Will need to be hunting for replacement coil buckets in the not too distant future. When Dad lowered them he cut off the bottom inch, so if I go that route I'll either have to weld on new material or find replacement coil buckets.

It's got me wandering if one could bolt on coil buckets and shock towers from a 73-79. That would also fix the availability issue of front shocks for these trucks. Either way finding replacements will be an issue since no one makes them.
