1967 Radio Opening Help

Post by Blue_Streak »

My original '67 cab had way too many problems to deal with so I bought a beautiful rust free cab out of Az. Beautiful except for the fact that the PO had cut away completely the mounting tabs for the original radio for the installation of an aftermarket one. My original cab had most of the original hole tabs cut for an aftermarket one as well ( yes , it was me in my ignorant youth ).

I am hoping some members on here would have pictures of their undamaged radio opening so that I might have a look at what they look like and maybe take a few dimensions so that I could weld up a couple of new tabs. I have an original radio and very much want it to be installed.

Would anyone here be able to help me out?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have a 1967 truck, I have a 1972 F250, but here are some quotes from other threads here on Fordification that talk about the 1967 radio: "Looks like the knob spacing is 4 3/4", center to center". "Threaded shaft portion is 3/8". "The radio itself is 7 1/8" W X 2 3/8" H X 5 3/8" D". "The mounting hole itself for the radio measures 7 3/8" X 2 5/8" for 67". I can't attest to these measurements but this was what was posted in the past. Here is a thread that shows the opening with the tabs where someone added an aftermarket radio. There was also some questions about having side tabs vs bottom tabs for the radio mounting. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=71333&p=644186&hilit=metra#p643259

Hope this helps

Sorry fellas for the late late reply. Its been 4 months and more pressing family matters came up that took me away from anything to do with my restoration or time on here.

I really appreciate the replies and the help. Both have helped out a great deal so thank you to 390FE1972 and dstuart. The dimensions are awesome and the pictures are fantastic. That will help out a great deal in fabricating new tabs.

Thanks very much
