3 Speed Toploader Tranny Serial Numbers???

Anybody know how to decode the serial numbers stamped on the side of a 3 speed manual toploader transmission? The number I'm looking at is......( line 1 ) RAT CW AH12 ( line 2 ) D5URGA 0032. The tranny looks the same as my trashed one, and I want to make sure it's a proper swap.

sounds llike a 75 tranny but thats all i can say. what are the numbers on your old one? do they match except for the d5 part?

The numbers on my old one started with "RAN". And I just found that the one with the "RAT" ID number won't work. It has a slip yoke on the back of the tailpiece (for shortbed trucks), and I need the one with the fixed yoke (longbed trucks). Also the "RAT" tranny is probably geared for a V-8, and I have the straight six.

David should have all the codes to tell you what is what. He is more into the 4 spd stuff, but I would bet he could verify codes.

My Hollander exchange manual only goes up through '71, but as mentioned above the D5 shows that as a '75 tranny, so your code won't be listed in my book.

I really need to get another to extend past '71.
