Rewiring, got connectors, now planning attack?

For you guys that have rewired all or some of your truck, where did you or what did you use for the connectors? I took my tailgate off and pulled the rear light wiring out of it, Everything came apart ok but, the connections and wires are about 48 years old. I also plan on cleaning up the engine compartment and would like to re-rout / rewire it.

Other than the generic V.R. connector, none of those apply to a 67-72.

Most of the regular vendors like DC, NPD, LMC, Macs, etc carry various pigtails for most of the lighting. Others like Summit Racing and https://www.wiringproducts.com/ford-connectors-sockets also have a large collection. Most connectors are originally Dorman parts and available through them

I've also just made pitails from regular bullet and spade terminals to plug into existing original connectors. Buy a soldering iron, some uninsulated connectors and some heat shrink tubing and make whatever you need. I made a jig out of a coat hanger and alligator clips to hold things while work.

soldering is not new to me, do it all the time. Got the heat shrink, several irons and experience.

Alright, got my box from Amazon with most of my stuff. Will start to rewire in a week or two. One question I have, if anyone had done this, what did you do for firewall pass thru?

I'm also thinking about hiding all the wiring that runs to or through the engine bay.

Summit racing has a large variety of grommets. https://www.summitracing.com/search/par ... ner=SREPD4 If you plan far enough ahead I would recommend a solid as opposed to a split style. You just have to remember to thread your wiring through the grommet before you terminate the ends. Or you can find original replacement type at DC, LMC, NPD, Macs, etc.

I was looking at Summit, just seeing what anyone else used. Will not be using any crimp style splices, all soldered and shrink tubing. I will have all my grounds going to a ground bus bar one way or the other.

Commonly referred to as "dedicated grounds", (as I did on BC #16). It's the sure fire way to walk away from hundreds of electrical "gremlins" on our old trucks. A little more expensive, (to run extra wire to terminate as each circuit) and time but so...well worth it!

Got bed off for some work, rear half of frame sealed, front sheet metal off to be replaced, engine out to clean up and replace freeze plugs and clean up/paint firewall.

Not using the factory spots where the engine harness goes through the firewall, upper left and right sides, gonna seal those with solid grommets. I want to run all that tucked up in the wheel wells in its own conduit, not that plastic wire loom stuff either. Trying to see if I can get the heater and A/C lines in there too.

Since this is a camper special, its has the tool box on the side of the bed, that is where the battery, starting sol, grounding bar and maybe a few relays are gonna live, well that's the plan. I have some real good water tight bulkhead electrical pass through's that I will be using. Plan on making the "power box and battery" on a slide out shelf, have been saving a few old file cabinet sliding drawer assemblies just in case, heavy duty too.
