390 truck oil pan

Post by yellercat »

Rebuilding a 390 for an F-250, 2wd and 1969 year; wanting to increase the oil pan capacity.
Looking for what has worked for others. Truck is automatic and power brakes and will be converted to power steering during rebuild.
Looking at the Canton 15-810 and would like to assure compatibility, or look at others that have worked in the same situation.
Seems that the front sump was the original configuration.
Be good to have the ability for dip stick, and temp sensor. Appreciate thoughts and suggestions.

Try it this way. Which Canton oil pan have you 69' Camper Special or 3/4 ton guys used before with some success?
Canton does list a 'truck' pan, but it is more a rear sump and have no idea what fitment issues I will be facing.
Engine is at the machinist's and need to point to something that will work with a little extra capacity. :D

Haven't had canton specific pans, But rear sump oil pans were used on the 4x4s and front sump pans were for cars and 2wd trucks so make sure you keep a front sump config pan.

Hey Rich, thanks for the reply. Do you know if the car and 2wd truck pans are the same?
Not sure what I've got, but suspect that it is a car engine (and pan).

I am pretty sure they are. I know my uncles truck ( a 2wd f250 ) has a galaxie engine in it and the pan has never been a problem. If there is a difference it will be very minute.

Well that is good news. Should be ok then with it.
Man you have got the F250 (s) !!
This is my first and am a little hesitant about the differences with the 1/2 tons.
May have more questions later !

F250s are great, very capable vehicles. Bring on the questions, lots of good resources and experience here.

......and yes, the sickness is real.......prepare yourself, two is never enough.......

Ha! I believe it.
My place is littered with Fords.
Someone asked me recently if i 'ever sold any' ; and had to reply, 'not yet'.
Have more in process than I drive, but it seems that is as enjoyable for me.
Will get a thread up about this truck after the engine gets done and stuff starts getting interesting. :)
