Oops! 1983 F100 SWB

Post by dolinick »

I "accidently" bought another Ford truck today.
Well, it was no accident. I got 1980 trucks on my brain.
This one has inline six cylinder engine and three speed manual shift.
It has power steering and brakes and air conditioning.
coolant is full and green and there is a new alternator but clutch
pedal is on the floor. I turned the engine a little by hand.
body has a few small dents. interior needs redone.
it's cute. The man selling it is a local wrecker driver. I got him to
pick up my old 1989 GMC and 2008 Dodge Magnum as well
as some junk that I needed to get out of my driveway.

Is there a major difference in sheet metal from 1980 to 1983?
It seems very thin compared to the 1967-72 trucks...

I did put a battery in and crank it. I think the engine will run. There was no oil on the dipstick but I drained some old dirty
oil out of it. I checked to see why the shift linkage(3 speed column shift) was not connected and the clutch fork is kind
of sideways and the pushrod thingy is bent and loose. I think the previous owner was getting ready to pull the transmission
maybe to fix the clutch.

I don't know how to do it but I want to try and fix the clutch. My mechanical friend might stop by Sunday to check the 1968 F500.
I'll talk to him about it. Actually, the 1968 has a spare engine and 4 speed transmission I could get. I think I can get it and put it in the
83 F100.
