Question about a 4 speed tranny

Post by stang1986gt »

I don't know a thing about Ford truck manual transmissions, so forgive me. A friend has a four speed transmission that was pulled from a 77 Ford truck. Would this transmission work in a car? Are they the same as the top loader transmissions in the 65, 66, etc. Mustangs?

He wants $75.00 for it. Is this a good buy? Would it only work in a truck? My truck is an automatic and I don't intent to change it, but if this is a really good buy, I may get it to have for any potential future projects.

Thanks!

Ya, thats a good price if it works and the syncs arn't shot. Is it a T18 or NP435? If the reverse is down then it is a 435.

I don't think it would bolt into a car very easiely. Might be to tall.

It would definitely be too tall....and you really don't want a granny-gear truck transmission in a car:

That'd be interesting though, to have a Mustang that could pull a house.

There you guys go again, spoiling all the fun. Only take a little trimming
to get it in there. Small hole in the roof for the shifter. Big deal!

Keith, is that your 435? Why do you have a 4wd tailhousing? That is what that bolt hole is for, the shifter. Hard to find when you need one.
