New here, 69 2wd potentially in my future.

Post by DrummerMike58 »

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a car guy for a while and enjoyed the forums when they are specific to the car I am working on like this one. Seems to be a wealth of knowledge here. I’m looking forward to learning quite a bit if I move forward on a 69 2wd this weekend.

I had a few questions as the truck in question has obvious immediate needs. There are mounting brackets for the inner fender liner which appear to allow for a slide motion to pull the liner out. On the truck I’m looking at, they are rusted through. That seems to be the only rust spot on the truck worth mentioning as I can take care of the rest on my own. I am just trying to find out if a replacement bracket can be purchased or do new inner fender liners come as a single piece that bolts to the firewall.

More on the truck. Interior seems better than I expected and the doors have no sag in them. The bump on the drivers side door will need some sheet metal work but doesn’t appear catastrophic. Current owner pulled leaf springs and cut the front springs to lower it. While I like the lowered height, I most certainly don’t like the method. It’s got what appears to be the factory 360 with a 5al msd box. It was terribly painted and I’ll prob paint it again in the future. Not currently running, but based on the owner who said he was driving it and it simply cut off on him leads me to believe it is ignition related, hopefully just a coil. Anyhow, original color is Cordova orange, has factory air, and a 71 grill (likely revert to a 69 grill).

Biggest concern is what to look out for and if $2500 is a decent price. Looks like prices on these are all over the place so any advice would be great.

Welcome from NC! looks like a great project to start with!
As far as the brackets you are referring I haven't had to purchase them but I'm betting they are separate from new inner fenders and will have to be purchased separately.

Thanks Bandit,

I tend to agree. I’m sure my best bet is to find a part out. I can’t seem to find them in online catalogues. Pic is where the part in question is. It bolts to the firewall.

Those inner fender mounts do not come with the inner fenders. They are fairly heavy metal and i’ve never known then to be prone to severe rust. Them being the only rust is weird.

You can see them in a couple of the pictures in the first few pages of my project thread.

I would think they wouldn’t be too hard to come up with in the classifieds.

Check the front cab mounts for rust too...

If it is basically solid I would say 2000-2500 isn’t a bad deal.

:wel: from Colorado! Here is a good thread with pictures on places to look for cab rust: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =7&t=35654 If you can't find any of the inner fender retainers in a junkyard or on the parts wanted section, Flashback F100 carries them but they are $80 a pair, click on the USA Made Steel Made Repair Panels section, the part numbers are C7TZ-8102294 & C7TZ-8102295

Well the guy wouldn’t meet me where I wanted to be on the 69. It was a bit of a bummer but my patience paid off. 2 days later a 67 came up on marketplace. 3 hours later it was in my driveway! 67 2wd custom cab long bed. 302 swap with a mild cam, 3 speed converted to floor shift conversion, and it runs!
