Crown Vic Swap

Post by sb4boys »

I am about to start on the CV swap on my 68 F-100 and wanted insight on any possible issues that could occur by making this change? Also, is there any real need to swap out the 9” rear end as a result of this swap? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Here's a recent youtube from one of our members (Autorestomod) that talks about the pros and cons of a Crown Vic Swap https://youtu.be/h5oZV7w2ckk
This one is by 330_Garage where he just recently started his swap: https://youtu.be/Wu6KedXKfFo
This one is by RIPBiker13, it is one of four videos: https://youtu.be/vzaTD-Kwlgk it is a Crown Vic Swap on a F250
Here is one of four videos by Texas Know How on a 1967 F100: https://youtu.be/Xf05fDryPmk

If you do a search here on Crown Vic there is a ton of information on this subject, it is one of the most discussed topics on the forum.

Hope this helps!

The only reason most swap out there 9" is to get the lug pattern the same as the CV swapped front end as the 9" is 5x 5.5 and the hubs on the new cross member are 5 x4.5. A lot of guys end up using the rearend out of the late 90's ford exploders as it's a quick way to add a decent gear with limited slip and disc brakes to our old bumps and lower the back of them to closely match the front but you don't have to as you can get axles made with the right lug pattern for the 9" or use adapter spacers to do the same thing.

Good luck with the swap!

Thanks for the info, I compared both options of keeping the original front suspension and converting it over to power steering/brakes, or just doing the CV swap. I believe the CV swap is best, but have read so many opinions where many changed out the rear-end due to width (tracking) issues, lug patterns and braking. I am good with drum brakes in the rear, and the lug pattern is an easy fix, but what about the width (tracking) issue, is this a big deal? The other concern was the need to lower the rear-end to match the front, which some say you need to C-notch the frame to prevent the rear-end from hitting the frame? Is a C-notch needed? Any guidance on these concerns would be appreciated.

Thanks
