1970 4x4 Front end swap with 1979 Dana 60

Post by Moto_hero »

Hello all

I have searched in many places and can not find the information I am looking for so I hope this will help.

I have a 1970 250 4x4 with the standard closed knuckle low pinion 44 with drum breaks. I have a 79 high pinion Dana 60 with disk brakes and dual piston calipers that I am putting underneath. I understand that it will fit just fine and there will be some slight modification for some things. Not an issue. What I am having issues with is finding information as to the master cylinder, brake booster and proportioning valve. I know that at least the master cylinder and proportioning valve need to be changed out. My first question is do I need to change the brake booster or will the one that I have work fine? Secondly I have found several master cylinder/brake booster combinations for the dual piston setup online but they are all out of stock or discontinued and I have not been able to find the proportioning valve at all. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to where I can find what I need and exactly what I need. I would be very appreciative with help filling in the gaps and tracking down needed items. Open to all thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

The specific items you need for the swap is the master cylinder that is designed for disc/drum and prop valve. You could prob order a generic one thats adjustable from summit or some place of the likes or getting one from a 78-79 f250/350 would be dandy. Really the same goes for the master cylinder. just order one for a 79 f250.

Just had to compliment you on the beautiful truck.

I would echo the advise that has already been given. Just run a m/c from a 79 F350. They were equipped with the same rear axle (D60) as you already have in your '70.
