1969 Ford Ranger Door Locks

Post by Jrg303 »

Hello All,

I have a 1969 Ford Ranger. The doors have this nifty little "feature" of automatically unlocking when you shut them. In other words, to lock both doors, you have to be either: A) inside the truck or B) lock the doors using a key from the outside.

Unfortunately, the key I have for the ignition doesn't match the doors. According to the local Ford dealership, they are unable to order parts for a truck that old.

I've called several locksmiths and they all tell me that they don't work on that old of a vehicle either.

Any suggestions on how to get a key cut to match the locks on the door?

Yes all of our bumpside trucks have that same nifty feature with locking the doors, you could try to find a quality locksmith shop that just does that, and have them try to make you a key. If it were me, I would just buy a whole new set of locks from NPD: https://www.npdlink.com/1948-1979-ford-truck they have a lock cylinder kit, doors and ignition best repro that is $28.95 that has high marks for quality. Try holding the door handle button in when you shut it. You could always get a whole new ignition and door lock set keyed the same. Usually all over Ebay.
