Identify a Axle (Dana 44?).2

Post by u267829 »

Hey guys,

I have a 1976 Highboy w/1979 Super-cab body on it, powered by a 351M. Good looking Frankentruck. I am having trouble Identifying the Front Axle on this truck. I can say the diff cover took a Dana 44 Gasket. Please see the pics below. The hubs are 8 lug hubs w/1/2" studs. Any help you guys can provide me would be great. Look forward to your responses.

Any pics of the knuckle, and hub? Factoid: Dana 44's have a different size diff cover bolt than a Dana 60. I can't remember what size but they are one size smaller. I would think it is a Dana 44.
Asking about the knuckle and hub, if its a small closed knuckle it would be a Dana 44, big knuckle Dana 44 HD(only outter parts are different) or very slight chance Dana 60(very slim). Open knuckle it would likely be Dana 44HD but the updated style with disc brakes. Open Knuckle Dana 60 got more "popular" late in the run.
