F100 1969 Transmission Tunnel Cover Removal

Post by NWFLF100 »

Just a quick question, do all 67-72 F100’s have a removable transmission tunnel cover? My ‘69 F100 has the original manual 3 speed transmission with column shift. I pulled the floor Matt and the insulation mat off the tunnel cover expecting to see the bolts to remove it but....it looks like it is all one piece...part of the cab shell. Is that right, or am I blind? I thought they all came out. I’m parting out the truck and wanted to pass it on.
Thanks!

I found the answer, not all trucks have them. I guess I’ve just been lucky, my fourth bump and the first one without a removable trans cover. As a note the other trucks had V8’s this one is a straight 6.

The high hump that had a removable cover for the transmission came on the trucks that came from the factory with a C6 automatic, or a 4 speed manual transmission.

My '70 did not come with a high hump. I decided I wanted one because....well, just because I wanted one. Got one from a member. There's an indentation in the floor, around the hump, which apparently is where the high hump goes. If you set the high hump cover over that you'll see it's a perfect fit. Cut out the floor inside that indentation and then just drill holes to match the high hump. You can use U-nuts and machine screws or just sheet metal screws to hold it in place. Here's how I did mine. Apparently a PO had put a floor shift in her at one time so there were some extra holes already cut in the floor. I patched those and then cut out the floor pan for the high hump cover. You'll see you have to move to the inside of the indentation, about 1", to allow room for the new screw holes.
