Changing engine mounts.

Post by Fordkid68 »

Hello everyone, I am working on restoring my 68 and I'm replacing the old 360FE with a 351 Windsor, and was wondering about the difference in engine mounts? I know I will need different ones to match the small block, but is that something that anybody makes?
It is a 2wd so the mounts bolt on to the I-beam cross member. were the small block ones completely different, or were they just mounted differently?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Adam,

You'll need to find a donor truck that has the SBF engine frame perches as the FE perches won't work, (the new motor mounts themselves are easily sourced from a dozen different places).
The tech article below should help explain the difference and be forewarned, (I made the mistake) the DS and PS engine frame perches are easily mistakenly bolted up in the wrong location which will twist/turn the engine off center.

More than welcome, and just a suggestion on the new motor mounts themselves is to avoid ANYTHING Jackie Chan in origin (China)!!!
Maybe check your local NAPA and ask the COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.

I've had to ask 6 different ebay vendors that question this week to find USA made, (MOOG) front end parts for my 08' Escape argh... :cuss:
Put "lifetime warranty" struts on it 2 years ago that failed, (and lost the warranty info) due to cheap china junk. And then last month my new struts ordered from a company I'd dealt with for years, (DETROIT AXLE) that always made parts in Dearborn Michigan arrive with China stamped all over them argh... :cuss:

It always makes me mad to see Made in China stamped on something!! everything I buy I try to get USA made even if I have to pay more for it.
Sadly even a lot of NAPA parts are made in Taiwan :cuss:
That is why you can't beat shopping local or making stuff yourself!
