1963 fe390 in a 1969 f100

Post by prdjr1 »

I have a chance at buying a recently rebuilt 1963 fe390 ,Is there any issues putting it in my 1969 f100 2wd ? My truck has the light duty 3 speed trans in it so i think that will bolt up fine.Any insight will be appreciated.

Earlier engines only have 2 motor mount bosses, i don't remember the exact cut off for year or if the two they do have are the right ones for a truck...

People have build plates to make them work, but i don't know if its the best idea.

Not all FE heads are drilled for all the exhaust bolts if they don't have the correct ones it may or may not be able to be drilled.

if the engine has 4 bosses where the motor mounts go and the heads have the straight up and down pattern on the exhaust ports, there should not be any other gotcha's.

The heads match the manifolds i have but the motor mount area only has 2 holes .I seen a picture where someone made a plate out of 1/4" steel to make the mounts work.I also read that the mounting hole on the front of the head for the alternator might be different.
