Speedometer gear

Post by F250 390 Ford »

I have a 1970 F250 Heavy Duty Special, 390ci, 4:10 gears, C-6 Trans, and 265/75r16 tires. My tranny has the short tail shaft. I have the steel driven gear, not the nylon that clips on the end of the speedo cable. My gear is a 18tooth. The speedo is off, when it say 60mph, it's actually 55mph. I'm searching for a 19 or 20 tooth driven steel gear. I have called all over with no luck. Any sugestions?

I never realized they even used a steel version of the gear. Are you totally against putting the nylon gear on it, (guessing here it would clip right on the end of the cable as I've also never seen a different cable offered)? :hmm:

Here's a few more places to reach out to, (and DC should be able to source it for you if they don't have it).
