Article 1221 - Deck Lid Latch Hang-Up

TSB #80 - November 24, 1967
(1968 Ford - All Except Station Wagons)

Customer complaints of the deck lid not opening when the lock is actuated with the key have been reported on some vehicles built prior to November, 1967. This hang-up condition is usually caused by burrs on the striker plate in the area where the latch pawl engages the striker. Corrective measures have been taken in production to remove any burrs on the striker plate and vehicles built after November, 1967 should not encounter this problem. If customer complaints of the deck lid not opening when the key is actuated are encountered, the striker should be inspected for burrs. The burrs can be removed with emery cloth or any suitable abrasive material. The specific area on the striker requiring de-burring is shown in Fig. 6.

NOTE: To open a deck lid with this condition, apply downward pressure on the deck while actuating the key.
