Article 1301 - Tool Tip - Oil Seal Garter Spring Retention

(All Vehicles)

When installing oil seals which utilize a garter spring for seal lip tension, the spring may "jump off" during installation. This is usually caused by the transmitting of vibration shock through the seal installing tool as a result of striking with a steel hammer. The incidence of garter spring "jump off* can be eliminated or reduced by using a plastic or hard rubber driving mallet instead of a steel hammer.
