69 AM radio in a 67 ?
Will a 69 OEM AM fit in a 67 ? If not what would make it fit without butchering the dash ?

Re: 69 AM radio in a 67 ?
i wondered this myself when i saw that thread this morning. and here is what i thought. the radio ears fromn the dahs probably will not work with the 68-72 radios. all that really holds the radio in place si the radio ears and the two bezel sscrews. so if you were to either bend the arms back . and install the radio using only the bezel screws and the rear mount bracket. it would probably have to be home made iwould guess. then it might just fit and work. but it may jiggle at times.
another thought i had was the maybe the 67 radio ears could be redrilled to fit the wider knob shafts of the 68-72 radio. i do think the bezel will fit without butchering the dash.
i didnt check anything out. i just looked at it in my mind. i have both radios and both trucks. but i havent ever looked or checked it out.

Sorry to disagree, Craig, but I'm sure the physical size of both the bezel and the dial face on the 68up radios would be too tall for the opening in the 67 dash...

No dice.
The 67 knobs are closer together and the face of the newer radio is much taller too. Also, the factory 67 bezel is only held in by the nuts on the radio shafts, there are no screws, but some might have been added later in your truck, I don't know.
I have a 67 Am if you need one. Actually I have 2, but one is going to be converted to AM/FM one day when I have $400 collecting dust!

Re: 69 AM radio in a 67 ?
final answer. the 68-72 bezel wont fit. i just went out and tried. the hole is not inset into the dash liek the 68-72 bexel needs. and the hole is shorter top to bottom. the hole i think is also a slight bit wider.

Re: 69 AM radio in a 67 ?
but will a 68-72 radio fit in the hole? my 67 has an after market 8 track in the original hole but they cut out the ears in the dash. other than that, it fits. i just wish i could find something to work as a bezel as the plastic one in there doesn't fit right.

the radio would probably go behind the dash from the glove box. but the 67 hole is shorter. the bezel is whats needed to fit the radio in there. and hold it. probably the volvo kit and a cd player may be the only way to go. if you dont have the 67 only radio.

there was a 67 radio that i forgot to link to on ebay last week. it sold for 26.00 total. which is pretty low for a 67 only radio.
